Double-standard: Lifesaving Information Blocked While Abortion Giant Planned Parenthood Allowed to Promote Itself

Washington, D.C. – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) and its research arm, the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) called on YouTube and other social media companies to stop censoring pro-life content.

YouTube reportedly suspended Abortion Pill Reversal’s account citing its policy on “harmful or dangerous content,” explaining that it “doesn’t allow content that encourages or promotes violent or dangerous acts that have an inherent risk of serious physical harm or death.” Examples of videos that violate this policy are videos about “instructional bomb making, choking games, hard drug use, or other acts where serious injury may result.”

An example of one of the censored videos can be viewed here.

“The idea that abortion pill reversal promotes violence is ludicrous. YouTube’s censorship of this lifesaving information has life-or-death consequences for hundreds of women looking for a second chance to save their babies. It is urgent that this account be restored,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Big social media companies should be very concerned about the appearance of a pervasive double-standard when they allow abortion giant Planned Parenthood to promote itself unimpeded. Each year Planned Parenthood commits more than 320,000 abortions, one of the most brutal, violent acts imaginable. They face federal investigation for their role in the harvest and sale of aborted babies’ body parts for profit. We in the pro-life movement make no apology for exposing the truth about abortion and call for an immediate end to the censorship of our views.”

As reported in The Washington Post, a peer-reviewed study published in April 2018 in the journal Issues in Law and Medicine found high-dose oral and injectable abortion pill reversal (APR) protocols to be safe and effective.

Writing at Western Journal, CLI President Chuck Donovan and Dr. Donna Harrison, Executive Director of the American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists and an associate scholar with CLI, stated:

“With as many as 350,000 U.S. women procuring medication abortions each year, and word inexorably spreading that this type of abortion is especially harrowing, imagine how many women and their children might benefit from knowing about APR. The testimony of dozens of women who have used this option is further evidence that the abortion industry, alarmed at even the slightest chink in their armory, will fail in its efforts to suppress information about APR.”

Background:

In May of 2017, YouTube removed a video obtained by David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress in which Planned Parenthood employees describe, in brutal detail, tearing off the limbs of unborn babies in late-term abortions.

Twitter has arbitrarily blocked advertising from SBA List and from Live Action in recent years and blocked a political advertisement submitted by Rep. Marsha Blackburn in which she discussed her efforts “to stop the sale of body parts” by Planned Parenthood. Twitter reversed its decision after receiving widespread criticism.

Also last year, Twitter refused to accept advertising from Live Action unless Live Action deleted content from its own website – including content calling for the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Lawyers for Live Action have urged Twitter to reverse that ban under both California and Federal law.

SBA List advertisements blocked by Twitter have included a pro-life quote by Mother Teresa and ads calling on constituents to tweet at their U.S. Representatives to urge them to vote for a pro-life healthcare reform bill. In September, Twitter blocked an SBA List video ad advocating for John Adams for Virginia Attorney General, stating that it was unacceptable to use the phrase “killing babies” in an advertisement.

Twitter for many years has accepted advertising from Planned Parenthood, which commits more than 320,000 abortions and receives more than half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding annually.

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 630,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.

Charlotte Lozier Institute was launched in 2011 as the education and research arm of Susan B. Anthony List. CLI is a hub for research and public policy analysis on some of the most pressing issues facing the United States and nations around the world. The Institute is named for a feminist physician known for her commitment to the sanctity of human life and equal career and educational opportunities for women.
