[.67 Credit Hours] Joel Brind, Ph.D. “Abortion-Breast cancer link: Review of recent evidence from Asia”

The present talk will focus on studies published over the last 10 years from South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) which reaffirm the reality of the ABC link, revealing a substantially stronger association than has been observed elsewhere.

Objectives:

1. To understand the basis of the epidemiological evidence of the ABC link and

2. To understand the methodological flaws in the high profile prospective data-based research published between 1997 and 2008, which research has inappropriately driven public policy to discount the ABC link.

3. To understand the recent data from Asia, particularly the ABC link data from South Asia published within the last decade. A specific focus will be to understand why the South Asian association between abortion and breast cancer is stronger than it is elsewhere, owing to the particular lifestyle characteristics of South Asian women.
