2017 Matthew Bulfin Educational Conference Live CME

[.67 Credit Hours] Joel Brind, Ph.D. “On the nature of life itself: The lifeless basis of all medical and health-related education”

The present talk will focus on the philosophical underpinnings of what has been taught at all levels in the life sciences concerning the nature of life itself; the evolution of modern biological thinking over the last century.

Objectives:

1. To understand the current philosophical basis of the life sciences in general.

2. To understand the history and evolution of the modern mechanistic view of living systems as “aggregates of molecules.”

3. To understand how the modern mechanistic view of life has colored the thinking of the modern medical and health allied professions, to normalize such previously unthinkable procedures as elective abortion, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
